We love going to the zoo with our grandkids. It feels like they are such teachable moments. But what is really going on in the zoo? Are there teachable moments taking place which we do not recognize? Maybe, maybe not, but let’s try to imagine. It makes me think of all of the movies where the animals are portrayed with human behaviors and thoughts. Here are a few things which occurred to me after enjoying the zoo.
One otter never says to another, “You were way too slow, but this was only a drill. If that had been a real wolf after us instead of just Uncle Olaf in a disguise, you would have been eaten.”
The lead elephant never says to the young elephant, “This is the 5th time you have been tardy crossing the pound. Next one is a detention.”
The adult giraffe never says to the young giraffe, “There is a reason that we stay in line and follow our line leader. Step too close to the water and an alligator may be able to grab you. Well, not here, because they are across the zoo in another area, and people would not come after seeing you get eaten like that. So, always do things the way that I tell you.”
The older lion never has to say to the young cub “The one thing you needed to bring for the hunting lesson were your claws and you forgot?”
The adult tiger never once said to the cub, “Don’t use that tone with me little cub …. and don’t roll your eyes when I am roaring at you.”
The mommy rhino never says to the baby rhino, “If I get called into the zookeeper’s office one more time…. ”
Something to think about as you have a Happy Friday and a wonderful end of April. When those priceless moments come, savor them. Have a Happy Friday. Remember to subscribe on the Perspectives page.
