I love everything about Hot Wheel cars. I do not remember playing pretend drives through the city, or firetruck rescues, or anything make believe with these cars. What I do remember as kids was that we made up our own games with hot wheels. Yeah, pretty much everything was a game, which does mean it was always a competition. Sort of since none of these games had collaborative objectives. I am just realizing now that those games simulated many aspects of life that are worth discussing.
The first game, and probably the favorite, was crash. You send your car down to crash into the car in front of you, and then the next car comes down the track to crash into your car. Once all of the cars were rolled down, the one the furthest along the track would be picked up and rolled down. Last car remaining on the track won. I think that this would be like our jobs. When we first got our jobs, we crashed into the person there before us, and there will always be a person after us. Aren’t we just trying to survive all of these other people coming and going around us? You know that person that seems to come aboard and exhaust three others.
The second game that we played was chase. Both cars enter the track one behind the other and the object is for the second car to catch the first car before they reach the end of the track. Yes, the track was short enough to reach the end, or at least we only selected the cars that could make it there. I feel like this race represents our finances. Seemed like we started out spending it before we had any, or at least borrowed it before we had it. Sometimes the second car was faster towards the end if that first car could not get to the end before being caught. So usually we get to a point where we start making more than we are spending and get a bit caught up. A really good feeling there too.
The third game is racing. The track is shorter, usually with an obstacle like a jump or a hoop to make it tricky. The starter must be neutral and it is all about the gate not being tilted one way or the other. Seems to me like this is our personal interactions. We are always watching other people too much to see how we compare. Can’t it to be tricky to keep any good relationships going, like suddenly we are not moving together anymore?
Life is a game of Hot Wheels. Hope that you have a Hot Wheely and Happy Friday. Remember to subscribe on the Perspectives page.
