Going Techy

Today’s technology is nothing new. Well, the ideas are not new, just the fact that we use technology for certain ideas is new. I would like to share a few common usage technologies that we have today and clarify what we called them a few years ago. Ok truth, more than a few years ago.

GPS – If we went somewhere we went with a navigator and we handed them the map. If we didn’t have a navigator, then we wrote the directions down, and if we felt we messed up somewhere, we pulled over to look at the map or ask at a gas station. How the heck these gas station attendants knew how to get anywhere within 50 miles of them is still a mystery. And they gave directions to turn at land markers instead of street names. Very helpful.

Siri – Does Siri really know all this stuff? Siri is called upon to answer any question, on almost any topic. But we had people to do this, you just had to know who to ask and then go find them. Siri knows the latest news, but we got that from the neighbor across the street. For seemingly random information, my mom is still quoting the Almanac on a regular basis. And if it was a sports question, you had Ray who was always willing to argue the answer, so finding out the truth to the statistics wasn’t all that important. Maybe Siri is just a collection of those someones. Reputation protection – I heard that I could pay a company to clear up my reputation which has been bashed through twitter or some social media if there have been some bad words spread about me. Back in our day, we called Antonio, and he would “clear up” the word that was getting around by going to the source.
