My daughter took my granddaughter(4ys old) to the doctor for an annual checkup along with my grandson(2ys old). My granddaughter announced to the doctor, “I eat carrots”, which happens to be one of her favorite statements, but added, “so that I won’t have to get contacts for my eyes.” Amazed by this conclusion the doctor said wow and thought that he would connect with these two young kids through reference to a Looney Toons character. So he asked, “And do you know who else eats carrots?” When they didn’t answer he went for the big connection with, “Bugs Bunny!” So my excited grandson yells out, “Oh yeah, Bugs Bunny!” The doctor in his brilliance has figured that he has built this perfectly so he asks, “Do you know Bugs Bunny?” My grandson calmly says, “Ummm, nope.” Yeah, well not quite the right question there Doc.
I cannot do the impersonations of movies or star TV characters that I used to in the classroom because my students have no idea who I am trying to be. I have had to switch from the Six Million Dollar Man and Apollo 13, to being Professor Snape from Happy Potter. Life is ever changing. Life all around us is changing enough that if we don’t change what is in us, meaning all that we think and act upon, then we can feel left behind or get left out. There is one part of us that must be always growing rather than changing, and that is our faith. The amount of changes and the complexity of these changes will get too big for us if we are not growing in our faith. So when the cartoons of the children change, we need to change along with the times. But keep a constantly growing faith.
May you have a Happy Friday by not missing your biggest line of the day. May you all have a very Merry Christmas.
