Writing Our Story

Writing

In 2023, I adopted the phrase “Writing Our Story”. People may think that the meaning is obvious, perhaps because the phrase is used often. When sharing this phrase we try to encourage others that their past has not dictated everything that is to come. Go through each day, and write more to the story. Great advice.

This is true that a view of life is to live each day for the fullness that it provides, especially knowing what we came through the last couple of years and how much has changed around us. Is there a day that goes by without hearing the report of another shortage in supply, or that the price of something else has changed due to previous circumstances? So yes, write your story today by doing something you have wanted to do, or find out more about something you hope to do.

If I were to choose a single word from this it might be “Connections”. My encouragement for this year is to make connections. Whether new connections or stronger connections, they could lead to some life altering advancements in our story. Remember, in a good book these are unexpected relationships that change the way the reader now understands the story so that they have a different view of it’s possible outcome.

This is my wish for you, for me, for us this year, in 2023. I pray that we are writing our story so that in the 40’s people will know that the 20’s connections were made that changed the possible outcome. Hopefully, for the better and perhaps in unexpected ways, not seen by the reader of those earlier chapters.

I want to share a thought that I didn’t consider when adopting my 2023 word until I had a recent talk with my beautiful granddaughter. Known to often have her nose in a book as they say, she said that she likes the books that have several stories going in different chapters. It is fun that they somehow connect to each other in surprising ways.

When I say “Writing Our Story”, please notice that this is singular, a story. ‘Our’ means all of us, humanity is writing a story. Perhaps, we each have a chapter. All of us will be able to talk about the 20’s in years to come saying that it was a unique time, far different than any we have experienced. Far be it for all of us to sit down and agree upon one idea, making each chapter read like the one before it. Each portion of the story is told from a different perspective, then mixed in between parts of other people’s stories. Suddenly, the reader notices some connection is taking place within the area of the story that they read a few pages back. In fact, the story was looking pretty bad until this connection was made allowing them to now consider a better ending.
