Fun in the Sun

Becoming a red lobster is not my idea of a fun summer activity. I suppose living further south could offer more opportunities for what I only knew as summer activities to be seen in months other than the hottest two summer months, and probably when the sun is past its peak for the day.

Pool time was simply my favorite summer activity as a child. Games in the water were somehow transformed, maybe due to helping us feel like these were games that fish played. Tag was most common, but sharks and minnows was a great variation. The shallow end provided some relief to constantly swimming during any of these. Sometimes we convinced the guards to close the diving area so we could play there, allowing us to dive in from the side going deep to avoid being tagged and safely reach the other side.

Thinking about it now, we always pretended to be fish. Never did we think that we had special powers, like Aquaman. I don’t see how I knew much of anything about fish. I only had a chance to go fishing a few times. Great caster, always looked good, but no fish. Mind you, I am not bad luck. People around me caught fish, fairly big ones too. My son became a good fisherman. No fish on my lines.

They say a good fisherman can sense where the fish are. I don’t catch fish, and I don’t sense fish. I look where they should be, but no fish. No feelings for them, don’t smell where they are, can’t hear them. I have no connections to fish.

Good thing I am not a worm. Also that I never considered majoring in marine biology. Would have been bad.

May you have a Happy Friday.
