Splish Splash

This is not about a bath, though one of my favorite math problems is a graph of the water level in the tub. Instead, water fun. This is not about fear or games, it is about surprise.

First up, the surprise wave. I am sure that you all have seen a friend standing in the ocean when a wave comes gliding along behind them. A wonderful backslap ensues and they emerge from the water to a chorus of laughter. A rogue wave big enough to get a good boogieboard ride (or body surf) all the way to shore leave us with the feeling of using the power of the ocean to enhance our joy.

A friend took us out on a sailboat. We tried for maximum speed through a tilt that would be illegal on a pinball machine, only to find ourselves bailing off the high end of the boat as it tipped on its side. Water rides tend to provide surprise moments of waves, splashes or waterfalls that collect unsuspecting inhabitants into their drenching flows of wet fun.

Great memories happen due to the surprise of ocean life. Some burst through the surface causing the ohs and ahs to be drawn from our inner beings. To me, the serene moments are a surprise of peace. The calmness that surrounds you floating slowly on the water sinks in and cleanses us from the pace of our hustle and bustle lives.

May you take in a moment on this Happy Friday.
