Just sharing a few favorites and some thoughts.
Favorite Question – “Where’s the beef?”
This line from a series of Wendy’s commercials can be applied to many situations. Probably best used when looking at a rather scrawny looking sandwich or meal.
Favorite Moment of Awareness – “There’s a baseball game going on down there.”
My 6 yr old son proclaimed this during the fourth inning of a professional baseball game. He and his friends had been playing around around in the isles surrounding our upper deck seats with his elementary school group.
Favorite (and only) Hitchhikers – An Very Fortunate French Family.
I was leaving in the dark after hiking down into the Grand Canyon. My drive would be over an hour alone back to my hotel. It had been a long hot hike, far longer than anticipated, which is why it was now almost dark. I walked an hour and a half to the bottom, then it took 6 hours to get back to the top. Not a good decision, but there was a reason it happened.
Seeing the thumb out of a man standing next to his family as I left the parking lot, I instantly knew that I was supposed to pick them up. Stopping the car, I reached over to roll down the window (yes manually) so the man could talk to me.
“Going to Flagstaff,” he asked with a thick French accent.
I almost replied “Duh, that is why I stopped. Instead I said, “Yes.”
He then explained that they missed the last shuttle bus to Flagstaff so needed a ride. I was wondering why he was not just getting in the car because I knew he I was supposed to take them. He asked if I knew where the hotel was in which they were staying.
“My hotel is just down the street as I drove past yours on my way here.”
It was an odd trip while the spoke French while all 4 sat in the back seat and I drove them from the front seat. They had fun as the dad tried to get pictures of the dry lightning flashing in the distance. And I dropped them off, leaving me a two minute drive to my hotel.
