Yesterday was the day that we claim to be thankful. Obviously, it was Thanksgiving Day and many of us try to spend hat day with family to show that we are thankful for having them in our lives. Unfortunately, some do not have a family that makes them feel like being thankful. Here is how I have checked into that word a little more closely.

thankful – feeling or expressing thanks
thanks – an expression of gratitude
gratitude – thankful appreciation for favors or benefits received

From these definitions I see that being thankful requires that there is an object of our thanks.

I am thankful for having a wife who is amazing in all that she does, and cares for me in a way that I could not ask of anyone.

I am thankful for my three adult children that I could experience their childhood and watch them become terrific people with great families.

I am thankful for my parents with whom we could share another holiday.

I am thankful that I have 7 beautiful grandchildren to love as much as I want, yet fill me with more love than I understood could be given.

Please notice that I did not even mention the turkey. That is because I mentioned it a lot yesterday.

To put it simply, all my thanks goes to God.
