Of course, we know. We were the ones that did it.
In the movies it is funny business to have a character confronted with a situation for which they were responsible. The humor comes in their responses to that and in using creative ways to get out of it. Well, attempts in their own mind that they averted suspicion. Thought I could share a few that I recall.
In a movie called Rocketman, the character uses the phrase, “Wasn’t me.” His specialty was trying to find another suspect. His best line was “The monkey did it.”
Avoiding it until all hope of getting out of it was gone, Steve Urkle had a famous line that he used when the conclusion was clear, “Did I do that?”
One of my favorite lines was in a movie where a congressman had a way of escaping all difficult questions. He broke into song and dance for explain it giving it even more irony. The song was called, “Dance a Little Sidestep.”
My grandson had a great line. He might have only been 5 at the time, but his mom asked him, “Was that you?” He looked up and lowered his shoulders in disappointment saying, “Mom, if there is only me and you in the room, and it wasn’t you….”
Have a Happy Friday.
