Get Excited

My dog was super excited to be walking on the trail with me. He makes it very obvious by wanting to walk faster, pulling me up the hills. Around the neighborhood we stroll. When I stop to talk to someone, he shows desperation to greet them, then lays down to wait.

Was thinking that there is an analogy of his view to how we view things that we like doing. Perhaps, at least there should be.

Do we show this kind of excitement when we are doing something that we like doing? Or when we are with people that we want to be with? Or do we hold back our emotions so much that no one notices?

We may not realize that we bring others into the excitement of the moment. This level of introspection might hurt a little, because I have spent far to much of my life without hardly showing emotion. I felt that was what others expected of me. I do not want to just show joy when greeting family and friends, though that is probably where I restrict my emotions the least. Some people find it easy to have a level of excitement over going out for conversation and food. I am better at being excited to play a game. Or to read books with the grandchildren.

Allow me to bring another aspect into the analogy. My dog is pulling me until he gets distracted by a chipmonk to the side of the path. Then he freezes and blocks my way so that I could even slam into him from the sudden stop if I am not watching. I have had people seem excited to be talking with me, then suddenly turn away to talk with someone else. Like instantly I was no longer interesting.

I went golfing for several summers with my dad for the reason that it was a place I saw excitement in him. When we got to the first tee, he would always say with the anticipation of hitting the ball a mile for the first time, “Let’s see how we hit’em today.” Love that.

This is a good perspective for a Friday whatever you may be doing. I hope that you wake up in the morning and say, “Let’s see how we hit’em today.”

I still smile at seeing the ensuing wormburner tee off shots that often followed this great claim. Wait, that might have been my hit.

Have a Happy Friday.
