Discount Shoes

Not going to claim that I need a pair of Dutch curl toed shoes. It’s just that I don’t have them.

I spent a large part of my life owning no more than 2 pairs of shoes. Wasn’t about not having the money, it was about there being no point to having shoes I would not wear. I had my pair of dress shoes. Then I had shoes that I wore for everything else until they had holes in them. Maybe if I am told that must be an exaggeration, then I would say sure I also had a pair of soccer shoes, at least until I blew out my knee during a game.

No joke, that game was on April 1st. I drove home using only my left foot for both the accelerator and the brakes. Not something I ever want to do again. There was a small gathering at my house so when I crawled through the front door, I got teased and told that they were not falling for it. Then I climbed into a chair and my swollen knee declared that this was no attempt at a poor April fools joke.

Okay so let me break down this exaggeration on step further. As an adult, I added a pair of work shoes to this list.

Decided to go look at the shoes I have now and I really cannot explain how this happened. 3 pairs of tennis shoes, 2 running shoes, 3 mowing shoes that are shoes I retired from other uses, 1 bike riding pair (also retired tennis shoes), pickleball shoes, soccer cleats, 4 pairs of dress shoes (and two are the exact same pair!), 3 pairs of work shoes, 2 pairs of hiking shoes, water shoes, slippers (do they count?), Crossfit shoes, maybe 4 pairs of sandals of which I cannot find all of them.

Oops found another retired pair of tennis shoes.

Interesting that people have different standard by which they deem an item no longer useful. Maybe I hold on to shoes too long, but if they don’t have holes in the soles, they are still useful. Same with my jeans. I am done with them once there is a hole. My foot gets caught in the hole while putting them on and I go right to the ground. I tell my students who walk past me wearing jeans with 9 tears in the legs (they bought them this way) that I have some jeans to sell them. Only 1 hole per leg, but they can tear a couple more if needed.

Dutch curl toed shoes? If I am not going to wear them, there is no point to having them.

Like red or neon green shoes. Not going on my feet.

By the way, my feet are size 9 wide.

Have a Happy Friday.
