Quarter of What?

2025 – a quarter century.

Only remembering two of these, I don’t have any opinions from my childhood being during the first one. We were all looking forward to the next year being our 200th year celebration of our independence. I do remember a traveling group put on a good play at our school leading up to the July 4th festivities.

The Y2K, or 2000, was plagued with rumors and worries that all of our computers would crash at the flip of that lonely digit number 1, that little digit we wrote down first with a lagging number 9 before we scratched our chins and thought about the year that followed. Cannot even describe how many times I wrote the wrong year on a school assignment, followed by checks, cards, and work papers.

Thinking about that quarter century mark brings some intriguing notions.

Our oldest living president just passed away being 100 years old. Not that he saw it, but he was born right before the 1925 year, a time when a lot of historical events were happening. History class can be boring but learning facts about the unique moments always interested me. The former president entered the military academy before the end of the second world war, but his service time began during peaceful years leading him to be 25 in the year 1950.

The year 1975 was likely a very exciting year while serving as Governor of a state. He made his first declaration to become president then won the primary and election during the 200th anniversary year.

My suggestion is to make this quarter mark of the year 2025 Stand Out.

How do you Stand Out?

There are two main factors which require action to make that happen.

First is to Stand Up. Staying put, or sitting comfortably still, in whatever you are doing doesn’t get you anywhere. Check out my post on Do I Count? where I said that you have to decide to count yourself first. There are statements about a generation now that feels their lives cannot mount to anything special, so they are not progressing into living on their own. When we want to be counted, we stand up, and say “I’m here!”

Second is to Step In. To do this you have to look for and find something worth stepping into, whether you think you will succeed or not. If we use an analogy of an event or a game, you cannot stand out if you don’t get in there and try your best. Put together all you have learned inserted into your determination to make it your event or game, then all will know you have stepped in. Let’s go!

As they say in science, for every action there is a reaction, then we can deduce that without action there can be no reaction. Want no one to react to you? Then don’t act.

Deciding to end this with a positive statement. These two actions together lead to a year where you Stand Out.

Have a Happy Friday thinking about standing up and stepping in during the year to come.
