Whether you hear it or not, your name is being called.
There is a famous example people frequently use of a name being called into a silent room with no one answering. I don’t know why but I am really irked when I hear someone say it and laugh, like finger nails scratching across my skin.
Say it and give the look with the head moving back and forth as no response is heard.
“Bueller, Bueller, Bueller.”
The movie scene of the lame teacher calling the truant student’s name multiple times completely unnecessarily could be the reason it bothers me so much. When he is noted as absent unexcused by the principal Ferris Bueller stands to fail his senior year of high school, because he was not present to stand up when his name was called.
Perhaps that is the first idea to consider for this year.
Are you present? Another way to ask this is to say, are you available?
In my second engineering job I would see the VP and the manager walking the plant for a monthly review of the equipment, a process he himself had a huge hand in developing. The VP always had a deep scowl on these walks, which seemed to get worse with each stop. The manager took furious noted and seemed to shrink in size as the walk went on.
When it appeared they were heading back to the plant manager’s office I would head to my office and wait for the call. Picking up the phone all that was said by my boss was “Got a minute?” That meant he had a to do list from the VP that he was passing on to me which would occupy the rest of my day, plus half of tomorrow to provide the report on all we would do to correct the issues found.
Whether you hear it or not, your name is being called. So stand up and let them know you are here. 2025 Stand Up, Step In, Stand Out Read the year words in my post called Quarter of What?
Hope you have a Happy Friday.
